International New Talent Competition
Guidelines and Application Form
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: MARCH 24, 2017
Thank you for your interest in the International New Talent Competition at the 2017 Taipei Film Festival (TaipeiFF), taking place in Taipei from June 29 to July 15, 2017. The International New Talent Competition aims to encourage talented and emerging filmmakers who have recently completed their first or second features, and to provide a platform for new voices from all over the world.
1. Competition Regulations
Films eligible for participation in the International New Talent Competition must be:
1.) A director’s first or second feature. Must have minimum length of 70 minutes and be available as 35mm print or DCP.
2.) Premiered after March 25th, 2016.
3.) Taiwan premiere (except Taiwan productions).
Grand Prize - NT$ 600,000 plus one trophy (approx. USD$20,000)
Special Jury Prize - NT$ 300,000 plus one trophy (approx. USD$ 10,000)
Audience’s Choice Award - one trophy
*A 20% tax will be deducted from the prize money should the recipient does not hold Taiwan ID card or residential status, and a 10% tax deduction from Taiwanese award winner.

The deadline for submissions is: March 24, 2017.

2. Regulations for selected films
Each selected film will be screened in its finalized version. Non-Taiwanese films should be English subtitled if the dialogue is not in English. Taiwanese films should have both Chinese and English subtitles.
The directors of selected films will be invited to attend the festival. For non-Taiwanese productions, TaipeiFF will provide accommodation and one round-trip Economy Class ticket for the director (one director per film).
TaipeiFF reserves the right to broadcast clips of the selected films on television, Internet or other media (segments totaling three minutes or less) for the purposes of promotion. It also reserves the right for the use of stills in the festival program, catalogue, website, and other publicity materials.
TaipeiFF will bear the shipment costs for print delivery to and from Taiwan. In the case when the print comes from or goes to other film festivals, the delivery fee will be negotiated between festivals.
The festival reserves the right to hold one additional screening of each winning film. Each selected film will have maximum of three screenings during the festival.
Please refer to Taiwan Ministry of Culture’s website for criteria on differentiating domestic motion pictures and foreign motion pictures under the Motion Picture Act for determining the film’s country of production.
For each prize-winning film, the director will be the de facto receiver of the prize money and trophy. In the case of prize money going to a person or company other than the director, TaipeiFF will require a signed letter of authorization issued by the director before any money will be released.
