Taipei Film Festival Appoints Director Shen Ko-shang as New Festival Director

 

Taipei Film Festival announces that its new Festival Director will be acclaimed documentary filmmaker Shen Ko-Shang. He assumes office from September 29th.

He will bring to the festival over fifteen years of industry experience and makes a close connection between the festival and filmmakers, with the aim of supporting new directors and diverse Taiwanese films.

 

Shen’s own work has covered fiction, documentary, and experimental film as well as television commercials. His notable works include Baseball Boys, Children from the Distant Planet, and ‘Bus Odyssey’ (segment of 10+10). Shen has a long-lasting association with Taipei Film Festival. His student film, Layover, won the Best Fiction in the Independent Film category in the 2nd Taipei Film Festival in 1999. His works have been consistently included in the festival ever since. His acclaimed documentary, A Rolling Stone, won both the Grand Prize and Best Documentary in the 2013 Taipei Film Awards. He served as a jury member for the Taipei Film Awards in 2015.

 

On joining Taipei Film Festival, Shen said, ‘I’m a filmmaker. I’m new to the festival operation and I will learn from the start. My intention on joining the festival is to assist both filmmakers and audiences, and to form a perspective towards film culture that is unique to Taipei Film Festival. Finally, I hope that the festival can inspire a diverse audience to be close to film, and to support potential filmmakers in a concrete way.

 

Taipei Film Festival belongs to Taipei Cultural Foundation and is chaired by renowned Director of Photography, Mark Lee Ping-Bing. Now preparing its 19th year, the festival takes place in July with two key competitions, the Taipei Film Awards and the International New Talent Competition.
